1、用在时态中：在中学阶段，需要用doing现在分词的时态有现在进行时， 过去进行时， 现在完成进行时, 过去完成进行时。
2、用在动词 finish ， enjoy， mind ， like ，hate，miss ,keep ，practice，avoide , suggest，consider, continue, imagine等的后面做宾语。
3、跟在介词短语的后面做介词的宾语：be good at , do well in , thank you for , give up ,stop sb from doing sth. be interested in., be prode of , intead of , be afraid of , what about …… ,think about, succeed in， by 等
4、用在固定短语中，常见的有：can't help doing sth, feel like doing sth. , be busy doing sth. ,be worth doing , have fun doing , spend……in/on doing sth. have difficulty/trouble/problem in doing sth. prevent sb.from doing sth.等。
5、动词做主语或宾语
6、用doing形式作状语，表示原因，时间，方式，伴随等。
7、还有一些短语或结构很有迷惑性，比如look forward to ,pay attention to . be used to . prefer to ，这里虽然有to ,但是这个to 是介词，其后面仍然要用doing 的形式，而不能用动词原形。
