2、on 与某地是毗邻关系，可以译为“紧挨着”。如：（1）Hebei lies on the north of Henan. 河北在河南的北部。（河北和河南是紧挨着的，中间没有隔着其他的地方，用介词on。）（2）Guangdong lies on theeast of Guangxi. 广东在广西的东部。（广东和广西是紧挨着的，中间没有隔着其他的地方，用介词on。）
3、to 范围之外的某方位；可以译为“挨着”。如：（1）Japan lies to the east of China. 日本在中国的东部。（日本和中国属于不同的范围，而且中间隔着海洋，用介词to。）（2） China lies to the north of Australia. 中国在澳大利亚的北部。（中国和澳大利亚属于不同的范围，而且中间隔着海洋，用介词to。）
