从字面看,shortlist的意思是「短名单」,而其实际含义指的是:经过筛选后的人员名单。
因为经过筛选后的名单当然是比原先的更短了,这么看,shortlist的实际含义也就和其字面意思更接近了。
The interviewers have to draw up a shortlist of five people. 面试官们必须最终确定五个人的候选名单。
They will choose from a shortlist of seven candidates. 他们会从7个最终的候选人名单中做出选择。
当然,有些场合,shortlist也可以用作动词:
Candidates who are shortlisted for interview will be contacted by the end of the week. 这一周结束的时候,最终得到面试机会的候选人会有人和他们取得联系。
